چکیده

Starting from an unintegrated gluon distribution which satisfies a 'unified' equation which embodies both BFKL and DGLAP behaviour, we compute the shadowing corrections to the integrated gluon in the small x domain that will be accessible at the LHC. The corrections are calculated via the Korchegov equation, which incorporates the leading ln(1/x) triple-Pomeron vertex, and are approximately resummed using a simple Padé technique. We find that the shadowing corrections to xg(x, Q 2) are rather small in the HERA domain, but lead to a factor of 2 suppression in the region x ∼ 10 −6 , Q 2 ∼ 4 GeV 2 accessible to experiments at the LHC. Experiments at HERA and the Tevatron have confirmed the rapid increase of the gluon distribution as x decreases, which is expected both in the pure DGLAP framework and in the BFKL-motivated approach. It is anticipated, however, that at sufficiently small x, this increase will be tamed by shadowing corrections. The first quantitative studies of gluon shadowing were made by Gribov, Levin and Ryskin [1] (GLR) and by Mueller and Qiu [2]. It was found that the shadowing contribution, f shad (Y, k 2), to the gluon distribution f (Y, k 2), unintegrated over the gluon transverse momentum k, is of the form ∂f shad (Y, k 2) ∂Y = −C α 2 S R 2

Shadowing of Gluons at RHIC and LHC 1

We show estimates for shadowing of gluons at small values of x, appropriate to RHIC and LHC experiments. Using a new evolution equation which takes into account the effects of gluon recombination to all orders in gluon density, we show that there is a significant depletion in the gluon density of large nuclei. Heavy Ion Physics at the LHC

The ion-ion center of mass energies at the LHC will exceed that at RHIC by nearly a factor of 30, providing exciting opportunities for addressing unique physics issues in a completely new energy domain. Some highlights of this new physics domain are presented here. We briefly describe how these collisions will provide new insights into the high density , low momentum gluon content of the nucleu...

Centrality dependence of the nuclear modification factor for the combined (1S+2S+3S) yield in Au-Au at RHIC (upper panels) and for the (1S) in Pb-Pb at LHC, compared to STAR [5] and CMS [6] data. Left and right panels correspond to the strongand weak-binding scenarios, respectively. The green bands indicate uncertainties in pre-equilibrium nuclear absorption and shadowing effects. Bot...

Onset of Perturbative Color Opacity at Small x and Υ Coherent Photoproduction off heavy nuclei at LHC

We study photon-induced coherent production of Υ in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions at LHC and demonstrate that the counting rates will be sufficient to measure nuclear shadowing of generalized gluon distributions. This will establish the transition from the regime of color transparency to the regime of perturbative color opacity in an unambiguous way. We argue that such measurements will ...
